Job description

At ENGIE, we believe the energy transition needs passionate engineers ready to shape tomorrow's grid. As a BESS Engineer I, you will contribute directly to developing utility-scale battery energy storage projects that deliver reliable, clean energy to communities across North America.

This is your opportunity to grow in one of the fastest-moving sectors of the energy industry. Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will gain hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle while helping solve technical challenges that support decarbonization and grid reliability.

In this role, you will support early-stage project development activities including system design, technology evaluation, conceptual site layouts, and technical due diligence for standalone and co-located energy storage projects. Collaborating with project developers, equipment suppliers, consultants, and engineering teams, you will help advance safe, reliable, and financeable energy storage solutions from concept through execution.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop conceptual BESS site layouts using AutoCAD Civil3D, including battery blocks, inverters, equipment pads, access roads, and supporting infrastructure
  • Define buildable areas by evaluating environmental constraints, setbacks, easements, grading limitations, and local ordinances
  • Support BESS system sizing based on OEM specifications, energy market needs, interconnection constraints, and project objectives
  • Prepare PDF drawing packages and engineering documentation, tracking assumptions, design iterations, and project status across multiple projects
  • Translate GIS, survey, and constraint data into CAD-ready design inputs for early-stage feasibility studies
  • Provide technical support for BESS project development under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required
  • Zero to two years of experience; internships, co-ops, or academic projects involving grid-scale BESS or renewable energy preferred
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil3D for conceptual site layout development
  • Exposure to GIS software, spatial datasets, and coordinate systems is desirable
  • Foundational understanding of BESS power and energy sizing principles and development-stage design considerations
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Eagerness to learn, take direction, and grow within a collaborative engineering team
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid in-office work policy and is not eligible for remote work
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 25% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
