A rapidly growing energy technology business is expanding its engineering team and is looking for an experienced Senior BESS Engineer to support customers across the Americas.
The company develops advanced software and analytics that help battery storage owners and operators better understand asset performance, identify issues and improve the reliability and profitability of their BESS portfolios.
This is a customer-facing engineering role combining battery performance, technical analysis, data interpretation and customer delivery. You will work directly with developers, asset owners, O&M providers and performance teams throughout the lifecycle of a BESS project.
Key Responsibilities
- Become a trusted technical advisor for BESS customers across the US and wider Americas.
- Work alongside commercial and solutions teams on pre-sales activity, including technical discovery, customer requirements, data assessments and system architecture.
- Take ownership of technical customer onboarding, reviewing electrical documentation and understanding how data flows across the BESS architecture.
- Configure and validate performance metrics, ensuring customer data is accurate, complete and suitable for analysis.
- Investigate sensor and data-quality issues, including missing signals, aggregation problems and insufficient operating data.
- Analyse battery performance during commissioning, capacity testing and augmentation, identifying issues such as cell imbalance, voltage variation, capacity degradation and efficiency losses.
- Produce clear technical reports and presentations that translate complex battery analysis into actionable recommendations.
- Deliver platform and technical training to O&M teams, performance engineers and asset managers.
- Act as the voice of the customer internally, feeding technical requirements, recurring issues and product opportunities back to Product and Engineering.
- Travel approximately 25% across the Americas for customer meetings, technical workshops and site visits.
What You'll Bring
- Several years of hands-on BESS experience, ideally within performance engineering, systems engineering, commissioning or O&M.
- Strong understanding of utility-scale battery projects and the operational challenges that arise from commissioning through to commercial operation.
- Engineering, science or related technical qualification, or equivalent industry experience.
- Ability to use Python for technical data analysis, troubleshooting and identifying anomalies within battery datasets.
- Experience working with data platforms such as Databricks is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology, including degradation, capacity fade, internal resistance, SoC and cell-level voltage and temperature behaviour.
- Understanding of BESS data acquisition and communication protocols, including Modbus, IEC-104, OPC-UA, REST APIs and SFTP.
- Familiarity with US power markets and ISO/RTO environments such as CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, ISO-NE and NYISO.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with engineers, operations teams and senior customer stakeholders.
- Spanish language skills would be beneficial.
- A proactive, analytical and customer-focused approach, with the ability to thrive in a fast-moving technology business.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional BESS engineering and work at the intersection of battery technology, data analytics and customer delivery. You'll have genuine influence over how energy storage assets are monitored, understood and optimised across the Americas.
