Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering & Construction Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) team.

Role summary / purpose

This role will provide core electrical engineering support for utility-scale BESS and inverter-based resource projects while helping modernize and scale engineering workflows through automation, internal software tools, and AI-assisted development. The ideal candidate is first and foremost a strong electrical engineer who understands power systems, electrical equipment, design deliverables, and project execution, and is comfortable translating engineering processes into practical Python-based tools and web applications using AI-enabled development platforms.

Key responsibilities
  • Review one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, electrical calculations, design drawings, and technical studies for accuracy, completeness, and constructability for utility-scale BESS and other inverter-based resource projects.
  • Support engineering activities involving batteries, power conversion systems and inverters, transformers, switchgear, cables, grounding, protection, controls, and auxiliary power systems, and support their technical evaluation.
  • Apply electrical engineering fundamentals to equipment sizing, system configuration, power-flow requirements, short-circuit considerations, voltage drop, cable ampacity, reactive power capability, and related design decisions.
  • Support the resolution of electrical design, equipment, construction, commissioning, and operational issues, as well as performing or guiding root-cause analyses for equipment failures, design deficiencies, and system performance issues.
  • Identify repetitive, manual, or inconsistent engineering workflows that can be improved through automation or internal software tools.
  • Develop and maintain engineering applications, calculation tools, data-validation utilities, dashboards, and workflow automation using AI-assisted developed tools using open sourced and common software languages.
  • Create tools that support activities such as design reviews, equipment comparisons, engineering calculations, data quality checks, document generation, requirements tracking, and project decision-making.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Devin, or similar platforms to accelerate software development, testing, documentation, and maintenance.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment when developing and validating tools to ensure outputs are technically correct, traceable, and appropriate for engineering use.
  • Establish documentation, testing, version-control, and change-management practices for internally developed engineering tools.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project stakeholders to define user requirements, prioritize development needs, and support adoption of new tools.
  • Help develop responsible practices for the use of AI in engineering workflows, including technical validation, data handling, cybersecurity, and human review.
Requirements - education & experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; Professional Engineering (PE) certification preferred.
  • 11 - 15 years of experience leading engineering teams and providing oversight for major energy infrastructure projects.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in power, energy, data center, or industrial infrastructure projects.
Required skills
  • Strong understanding of power system fundamentals: one-line diagrams, protection and controls, grounding, arc flash, and interconnection.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical distribution systems and power systems.
  • Experience with computational tools such as ETAP and EDISON.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills, ensuring technical compliance and project success.
Nice-to-have / preferred skills
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating engineering deliverables with external design firms or Engineers of Record.
  • Ability to validate software-generated engineering results against accepted calculations.
  • Experience with ladder logic and safe shutdown analysis.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and pipe stress analysis.
  • Knowledge of civil and structural engineering including foundations, site grading, drainage systems, seismic qualification, and pipe supports.
  • Experience with MOV valve diagnostics, troubleshooting, and valve program management.
