Position Scope and Organizational Impact

Moss’ Bess Electrical Assistant Superintendents coordinate, plan, and support Superintendents, contractors, and craft activities on large utility solar projects. A positive attitude and behavior are essential, as the role requires interaction with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure high‑quality installation of electrical portions, including the underground electrical collection system.
  • Support oversight of drawings, constructability, submittal reviews, and feedback with the engineering team, ensuring materials, equipment, and workmanship meet specifications and contract updates.
  • Collaborate with the Electrical Superintendent and General Electrical Superintendent in developing project schedules, updates, and a 3‑week look‑ahead.
  • Ensure work teams have necessary resources and support.
  • Support quality control of work, both self‑performed and subcontracted.
  • Coordinate personnel involved in connecting the power grid to the existing distribution system.
  • Supervise installation, splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables.
  • Participate in project meetings and liaise between field engineers, contractors, and craft workers to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Review and monitor subcontractor procurement of electrical resources, methods, staffing, look‑ahead schedules, and coordination with other site activities.
  • Ensure engineering staff transmit plans, specifications, submittals, and RFIs to subcontractors accurately and timely.
  • Monitor safety, quality, and efficiency of subcontracted work.
  • Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents.
  • Certify that work teams have resources and support.
  • Produce reports, including Sequence of Operation instructions, energization of circuits, and written Methods of Operation (MOPs).
  • Establish and nurture a teamwork environment.
  • Provide work direction and performance evaluations.
  • Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, discipline, and dismissal decisions as needed.
  • Develop leadership potential through appropriate task assignments and career growth opportunities.
  • Handle open shop and union issues.
  • Maintain relationships with all site visitors: customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc.
  • Run site work and logistics efficiently, suggesting improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with medium‑voltage equipment and cable, including collection line construction.
  • Experience supporting large self‑perform projects.
  • Proficiency in installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of medium‑voltage cables.
  • Knowledge of current injection, Hi‑pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other cable and equipment testing methods.
  • Working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes, vaults, underground and pad‑mount transformer usage, and SCADA systems.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • 100% travel required with rotations.
