Purpose

The General Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair and maintenance work as assigned, following dealer and factory standards. S/he will also oversee the work of any apprentice technician assigned to him/her.

Essential Duties
  • Receive repair orders from dispatcher and take to stall area.
  • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform repairs.
  • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag parts if under warranty or requested by the customer.
  • Examine the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required.
  • Inform service advisor if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Document work performed.
  • Road-test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician, ensuring vehicles are used appropriately.
  • Supervise apprentice technicians as assigned. Attend factory training and stay updated on technical bulletins.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and shop organization. Keep track of dealership tools.
  • Follow federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal.
Requirements
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background screening.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions.
  • ASE certification preferred.
  • Mechanical skills and valid driver’s license with a good record.
  • Manual dexterity and good judgment.
