Responsibilities

  • Conducts patient evaluations. Assesses suitability for inpatient / outpatient care and need for additional services including psychiatric intervention.
  • Formulates and implements patient treatment plans. Conducts individual, family and group therapy / treatment. Provides patient / family education and support.
  • Conducts individual and group treatment / activities for patients at the highest level of complexity of care. Supports coordination of care with family, clinicians and agencies.
  • Supervises and/or coordinates activities of licensed clinicians, counselors and/or intervention specialists and/or externs in a program / unit. Provides clinical guidance and oversight.
  • Participates in program development and administration. Oversees utilization of resources, quality of care, institutional and regulatory compliance.
  • Serves on multi-disciplinary committees and represents program / unit internally and with community agencies. Leads / participates in community outreach / program implementation.
  • Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support new or innovative programs. May lead intervention teams.

Job Description

This clinician has autonomous professional responsibility for 5150 evaluations, emergency behavioral health assessments, level of care determination, and interventions with patients and families. The incumbent makes recommendations to medical staff regarding the level of care determination of behavioral health and psychiatric patients.

This position will primarily provide weekend and evening coverage, with some opportunities for weekday shifts.

This clinician will work collaboratively with medical and nursing staff and other behavioral health and psychiatric staff to assess and care for behavioral health and psychiatric patients and family members in Emergency Departments and other healthcare settings. May function as a program manager or administrator of a psychiatric department or clinic. May lead in planning and coordinating the work of a multidisciplinary treatment staff. Assists with long-term planning; revises / implements new procedures; conducts training for professional and paraprofessional staff members; and provides psychotherapeutic treatment with emphasis on the most severely disturbed and high risk cases.
