Job summary

Bearing Distributors, Inc. seeks a dedicated Benefits Navigator to help individuals with disabilities access and map benefits, coordinate services, and support life care planning.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, relevant government benefits experience, and strong counseling and communication skills; CWIC certification and a master’s degree are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Public Health, or related field.
  • Experience in government benefits and with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Master’s degree, CWIC certification, and Benefits Navigation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides benefits acquisition consultation resulting in individualized Benefits Maps, including review of core benefits and life care planning.
  • Provides case management including benefits analyses, work incentive counseling and development of Comprehensive Benefits Summaries.
  • Provides resource navigation on public benefits including SNAP, healthcare management, housing, employment supports.
  • Supports intake into Benefits Navigation services through management of the Action Tracker and referrals/outcomes.
  • Tracks data and performance measures to support organizational impact.
  • Coordinates internal referrals with Benefits Specialist, WIPA, Family Support Coordinator, and Georgia Community Trust.
  • Coordinates external referrals with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency and other agencies.
  • Supports community outreach and relationship-building at workshops, conferences and transition fairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Supports the mission, vision, and goals of BDI by promoting financial stability for individuals with disabilities through benefits acquisition and life care planning services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides benefits acquisition consultation resulting in individualized Benefits Maps, including review and exploration of needs of core benefits and life care planning (Social Security, Health Insurance, Waiver programs, Vocational Supports, life care tools and more).
  • Provides case management including benefits mapping including benefits analyses, work incentive counseling and development of Comprehensive Benefits Summaries.
  • Provides resource navigation on public benefits including SNAP, healthcare management, housing, employment supports, and other financial resources.
  • Supports intake into Benefits Navigation services through management of the Action Tracker and documents consultations, referrals, and outcomes.
  • Supports global BDI impact and organizational outcomes by tracking data and performance measures.
  • Coordinates internal referrals including but not limited to Benefits Specialist, WIPA, Family Support Coordinator, and Georgia Community Trust.
  • Coordinates external referrals including but not limited to Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Georgia Advocacy Office, Legal Aid offices, law offices, and other agencies.
  • Supports strategic relationships within the community to promote program growth, including presentations at workshops, conferences, transition fairs and other key community events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree in Social Work, Human Services, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Public Health, or related field. Experience Relevant experience working in government benefits and working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and related conditions could substitute for education.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree, CWIC certification, and Benefits Navigation experience.

90-DAY TRAINING PERIOD EXPECTATIONS
  • Employee must demonstrate during probation (90 days) competency in the following areas:
    • Ability to assess cases for disability determination and eligibility requirements for benefits including but not limited to Social Security and waiver programs and develop a life care plan reflecting benefits analysis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Moderately quiet office.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position with expectations of a minimum 37.5-hour work week.

TRAVEL

Travel to events tied to outreach efforts and professional development.
