Okaloosa County School System in Crestview, FL, is seeking an experienced Benefits Administrator to oversee employee and retiree benefits administration and wellness programs, and to provide operational support to the Risk Management Department.
The role informs employees about life, health, dental, FSA, HSA, and pre-tax deductions; assists with enrollment, COBRA, open enrollment, and communications; works with payroll and maintains department records.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Provides administration of employee and retiree benefits and wellness programs; provides operational support to the Risk Management Department.
Education, Training, and Experience:High school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in employee benefits, (health, life, vision, dental) or payroll processing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Experience with Microsoft Access is preferred. Minimum typing speed of 25 words per minute is preferred.
Requires a valid driver license.
Requires the ability to operate office equipment, to include computers, copy/fax machines and related peripherals. Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 five pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires periodic walking and standing, with occasional bending and stooping. Physical demands are essentially those of sedentary work.
Requires the ability to communicate in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Requires ability to read a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats, and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation. Requires the ability to communicate with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds.
Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of instructions in written and oral form; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, use decimals and calculate percentages; interpret graphs; compute ratio and proportion.
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with frequent deadlines or peak workloads. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
