Job summary

Located in Indianapolis, the University of Indianapolis seeks a Benefits and Compensation Manager to design, implement, and manage compensation, benefits, and payroll programs that attract and retain talent.

You will lead a team of HR professionals, ensure regulatory compliance, benchmark market data, and partner with university leadership to develop salary structures and total rewards initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of progressive compensation/benefits/payroll experience.
  • Experience in not-for-profit or higher education is valuable.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Professional HR/compensation/payroll or benefits certification (e.g. CEBS, CCP, PHR, SHRM-CP) required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes the total rewards strategy aligned with the university's mission and objectives.
  • Designs, implements, and administers compensation, benefits, and payroll programs.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to compensation, benefits, and payroll.
  • Oversees salary surveys, market data analysis, and benchmarking for competitiveness.
  • Leads Payroll, Benefits, and HRIS professionals administering the total rewards programs.

Job Description

The Benefits and Compensation Manager is responsible for designing,implementing, and managing the university’s compensation, benefits,and payroll programs. This role is responsible for ensuring theeffectiveness and competitiveness of our total rewards offerings,ultimately contributing to employee attraction, retention, andengagement.

REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

  • 5 – 7 years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits,and/or payroll
  • management. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations andcompliance requirements related to employee compensation andbenefits administration. Experience in a not-for-profit or highereducation environment is valuable.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or arelated field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications/Credentials

  • Professional certification in Human Resources, Compensation,Payroll or Benefits required (e.g. – CEBS, CCP, PHR, SHRM-CP)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position manages compensation and benefits for the universityand oversees the professionals administering those functions.

Develops and executes the overall total rewards strategy, aligningwith the university’s mission, culture, and businessobjectives.

  • Leads the design, implementation, and administration ofcompetitive compensation, benefits, and payroll programs to meetthe needs of employees and the organization.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulationsrelated to compensation, benefits, and payroll.
  • Oversees the preparation of regular salary and benefitssurveys, market data analysis, and benchmarking to ensurecompetitiveness within the industry.
  • Hires, trains, and effectively manages payroll, benefits, andHRIS professionals administering the University’s total rewardsprograms.
  • Partners with HR Business Partners and University leadership todevelop and implement compensation structures and salaryadministration programs that support talent managementobjectives.
  • Collaborates with benefits brokers and vendors to manage theorganization’s benefits offerings, including healthcare, retirementplans, and wellness initiatives.
  • Oversees the organization’s payroll function, ensuring timelyand accurate processing, tax compliance, and record-keeping.
  • Leads the communication and education efforts related to totalrewards programs, ensuring transparency and understanding amongemployees.
  • Continues education to remain current on best practices andregulatory changes related to compensation, benefits, andpayroll.
  • Behaves ethically, respectfully, and with integrity at alltimes.
  • Abides by the University’s policies, procedures, andrules.
  • Works reliably and is responsive to the needs of employeeswithin and outside Human Resources.
  • Other duties, including special projects, as required orassigned.
