Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Grand Blanc, MI, seeks a Benefits Administrator to manage benefits data, explain programs to staff, and coordinate enrollment activities. The role requires a strong background in HR benefits and related regulations, with healthcare experience preferred.

Under the manager of corporate benefits, you will help ensure accurate enrollment, liaise with carriers, and recommend policy improvements to support compliant, efficient employee benefits administration.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and minimum of five years’ experience in benefits administration in the HR field
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, economics, social sciences or a related area and minimum of three years’ experience in benefits administration in the HR field
  • One year experience working in a health care setting.
  • Working knowledge of benefit related laws and regulations (FMLA, IRS Section 125, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA)

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, maintains, corrects, adjusts and monitors benefits data including benefits summaries in assigned areas of responsibility. Interprets and implements established policies and procedures, objectives and regulations in the area of benefits.
  • Explains benefits programs to employees, colleagues and managers. Responds to requests for information regarding benefits programs, structures, eligibility, enrollment, procedures, policies, etc.
  • Conducts and coordinates benefits enrollment and disenrollment activities for new hire, transferring, regular, and terminating employees. Maintains records and collects documents related to enrollments.
  • Works with benefits/insurance carriers and others to address and resolve enrollment, coverage, and other benefits issues.
  • Identifies problems in benefits policies and practices and makes recommendations to correct problems arising from contacts with employees, managers, carriers and others.
  • Conducts open enrollment activities and processing. This includes, but is not limited to assisting with the planning, promotion, execution, monitoring and adjusting of the open enrollment process as well as collection, verification, correction, and transmission of enrollment information from employees.

Under the general direction of the manager corporate benefits, the incumbent administers, facilitates, problem solves, researches and communicates information related to the benefits program.Typically, the incumbent also performs professional and analytical work of moderate difficulty and is proficient in communicating information that can be moderately complex.
