Job summary

Hussey Seating Company in North Berwick, ME is seeking a Bench Welder/Fabricator to work at a welding bench, building telescopic seating components.

You will MIG weld sheet metal of varying thickness, read engineered drawings, and support lean improvements. Training available and opportunities to qualify with welding certs.

Qualifications

  • 10 years welding/fabrication experience with MIG.
  • Ability to read part and assembly drawings and perform quality checks.

  • Read and interpret engineered drawings and welding symbols.
  • Design and fabricate temporary fixtures when standard fixturing is not available.
  • Perform First Piece Part Quality checks and maintain paper flow.
  • Support Lean continuous improvement and SOP development.

POSTION TITLE: BENCH WELDER/FABRICATING SPECIALISTDEPARTMENT: WeldingREPORTS TO: Supervisor, ProductionHOURS/SCHEDULE: Monday through Thursday, 5:00am to 3:30pm*overtime available during high product demand timesHOURLY/SALARY STATUS: Hourly/Non-ExemptPOSITION OVERIVEW:The Bench Welder/Fabricator works directly with a team of shop associates and engineers to construct a variety of standard and customized (Engineered to Order) telescopic seating components while working in a personal workspace at a welding bench. The Bench Welder/Fabricator welds using the MIG process on sheet metal in various thicknesses with gauges and very little to no base material preparation or post weld requirements. We offer in-house welding qualifications in accordance with the American Welding Society and opportunity for qualification directly with the Canadian Welding Bureau. We will also provide in-house training or support outside training for individuals seeking to further their welding knowledge and/or credentials.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:Organize production schedule, understand, and adhere to product acceptability requirements.Maintain consistent and accurate records and maintain accurate inventory counts.Read and interpret engineered drawings and welding symbols.Design and fabricate temporary welding fixtures for custom work when standard fixturing is not available.Utilize basic measuring tools such as tape measure, squares and protractors.Actively participate in Daily Communication Meetings reviewing Daily Safety, Quality, Delivery and Continuous Improvement actions.Ensure production schedule follow through as allocated by the scheduled department.Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of welding cutting equipment and work area in accordance with company standards and manufacturers machine recommendations.Perform activities supporting the establishment of work center standards for process improvement.Perform First Piece Part Quality checks and facilitate work-order paper flow in accordance with Hussey Seating Company Quality Standards.Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures, Visual Workplace Standards, and ongoing Lean continuous improvement activities.COMPETENCIES: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)Strong understanding of operating basic metal shop equipment and tools.“Safety first” mindsetThorough understanding of how to read part and assembly drawings, evaluate finished products and perform quality checks.Highly motivated self-starterTeam player with the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with internal teamsStrong attention to detailStrong interpersonal skills and professional demeanorEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or equivalent10 years Welding/Fabrication operational knowledge and experience applying MIGPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Lift, carry, push and/or pull 1-50 lbs. frequentlySquat/kneel, bend/stoop, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead frequentlySit, stand and walk for 1-10 hours per dayAbility to work in 55-to-90-degree work environmentMust wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as requiredJOIN A TEAM THAT BUILDS MORE THAN GREAT PRODUCTSAt Hussey Seating Company, we’re more than a manufacturer – we’re a family-owned company that has been building places where people come together since 1835. The anticipated starting range for this position is $24.24 to $38.96 per hour.
