Job summary

Comal ISD Transportation in New Braunfels, Texas is seeking a Behind the Wheel Trainer to educate qualified school bus drivers and provide ongoing training and evaluations.

The role requires a Class B CDL with P&S endorsements, CPR/CPI certifications, and strong presentation and computer skills. You will maintain training records and coordinate with families and campus staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Class B CDL with P&S endorsements required.
• CPR and CPI certification or ability to obtain.
• Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate.
• Must complete TEEX Training Academy certification within 60 days of employment or first available regional class.

Responsibilities

• Performs Behind the Wheel Training and classroom training for new and existing employees.
• Documents and maintains all training records as required by State and Federal regulations and Comal ISD policies.
• Assists and trains drivers in department policies and procedures.
• Assists and trains drivers in setting up and maintaining paperwork responsibilities.
• Assists and trains drivers with student management.
• Assists drivers in the resolution of route problems.
• Maintains records and schedules for driver trainees.
• Communicates with parents, school personnel and general public.
• Covers routes as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Primary Purpose

Trains qualified School Bus Drivers according to Comal ISD established guidelines and legal requirements. Provides on-going training and performance evaluations for new and existing employees and provides a safe, reliable transportation service by operating various school buses in transporting pupils to and from school as well as related activities. Maintains the highest level of professional communication with campus administrators, fellow employees and our community.

Education / Certification

• High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
• Class B CDL license w / P&S endorsements.
• CPR and CPI Certified (or able to attain).
• Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate.
• Must complete TEEX Training Academy certification program for school bus driver instructors within 60 days of employment or first available regional class.

Special Knowledge / Skills

• Strong organization and group presentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledgeable in adult training techniques.
• Computer literate, preferably in word processing, power point and spreadsheets.
• Basic math skills, detail orientation, mapping skills.

Experience / Other Requirements

• Two years of driving experience, as a professional school bus driver, is required.
• Must have and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and safety record with zero preventable accidents and/or On the Job Injuries within the last 12 consecutive months.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Performs Behind the Wheel Training and classroom training with new and existing employees.
• Documents and maintains all training records as required by State and Federal regulations and Comal ISD policies. Files shall be maintained to document the progress of each Trainee and all In-Service training for each driver in accordance with Comal ISD policy and procedures.
• Assists and trains drivers in department policies and procedures.
• Assists and trains drivers in setting up and maintaining paperwork responsibilities.
• Assists and trains drivers with student management.
• Assists drivers in the resolution of route problems.
• Maintains records and schedules for driver trainees.
• Communicates with parents, school personnel and general public.
• Covers routes as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
