Job summary

Easterseals PORT Health is seeking a Behavioral Support Staff for full-time roles in Durham to support individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs at the START Center. You will contribute to a therapeutic, supportive environment and partner with clinical teams to maintain high-quality care.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Social Work or related field, two years of relevant experience, and proficiency with EHR systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related Human Services field.
  • 2 years experience supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems or technically savvy.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation for work-related travel.

Responsibilities

  • Support persons with co-occurring developmental disabilities and mental/behavioral health needs in the START Center.
  • Assist with habilitative activities, personal care, health care and daily routines to foster a therapeutic environment.
  • Collaborate with primary provider, clinical home, community crisis services, and families as part of START model services.

Your Role in Our Mission:

As a Behavioral Support Staff on the team, you will support persons with co-occurring developmental disabilities and mental or behavioral health needs, who are temporarily accessing the START Center for crisis or planned crisis stabilization. This staff participates in the daily routine of the home and provides support for habilitative activities, personal care, health care and other activities. Behavioral Support Staff also help ensure a therapeutic environment at the START Center. START Behavioral Support Staff participate as part of comprehensive START model services that collaborate with individual's primary provider and clinical home, community crisis services, family and others.

  • Option 1: Full Time- Over Night-Wednesday-Friday and every Sunday 10:00PM-8:00AM
  • Option 2: Full Time- 2nd Shift-Monday and Tuesday 11:30AM-10:0PM, Wednesday 1:30PM-10:00PM and every other Saturday and Sunday 11:30AM-10:00PM

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Competitive salary: $20.00 per hour for this full-time and periodic non-exempt positions.

What We’re Looking For:

To join our team, you must be willing to provide care in a supportive environment for individuals who may experience behavioral or mental health crisis, have a passion for helping others, have experience with MS Office suite and data entry, plus strong verbal and written communication skills. We also require the following:

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related Human Services Field.
  • 2 years experience with supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions required.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems or technically savvy.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation for work-related travel.
  • Recent College Graduates interested in pursuing Graduate Level Programs in Social Work/Psychology/OT/PT or Nursing encouraged to apply.
