Job summary

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Traffic & Safety Division seeks a Safety Communications Manager to lead end-to-end messaging for programs like Zero Fatalities, Truck Smart, and Safe Routes Utah. You’ll coordinate internal/external communications, align with the broader UDOT team, and manage external PR/media relationships.

The role requires strong writing, project management, and collaboration across divisions, with a focus on clear, safety-focused messaging and statewide campaigns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field; or four (4)+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience managing contractors and media relationships.
• Strong editing and editorial standards.

Responsibilities

• Use a data informed approach to identify key messages and target audiences.
• Oversee all internal and external communications for behavioral safety programs.
• Lead communications planning for behavioral safety across Utah.
• Coordinate with PR/media contractors to measure campaign analytics and reach.
• Act as primary manager for contracted PR/Media agency.
• Direct contractor deliverables for press events, content, social campaigns, and earned media.
