Behavioral Licensed Practical Nurse I - Emergency Stabilization Program - Continuous Posting - (250005DY)

Role and Location

This is an open and continuous posting for full-time positions on multiple shifts throughout the Wrentham Developmental Center of the Southeastern Region of DDS. The position is based in Wrentham, MA with duties within the Evaluation and Stabilization Program (ESP) in the Southeast Region.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care and oversee the health care plan by charting vital signs, applying medical/surgical dressings, and administering medications as prescribed by physicians.
  • Assist with daily maintenance, personal care, and other services as outlined in the Individual Service Plan (ISP); maintain individual records and files.
  • Initiate referrals for medical services, including scheduling, hospital safeguarding, advocacy, and follow-up care; refer for supportive and health-related protections as needed.
  • Communicate health issues to staff and update individuals’ families/guardians regarding hospitalizations and rehabilitation support.
  • Inform staff of medical concerns related to activity level that may affect progress.
  • Order medications and maintain medical supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Initiate emergency medical procedures by applying basic first aid, CPR, tracheotomy care, and catheterizations as required.
  • Provide training for direct support staff on the use of equipment and treatments.
  • Transport individuals to work, medical appointments, and community activities as needed.
Special Requirements

LPNs applying for this assignment must successfully complete the Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) within 6 months to be eligible for assignment. LPNs who are unable to complete the training will be ineligible.

The selected candidate must acquire and maintain PABC certification and have current CPR certification.

Position Requirements
  • Must possess a current, active LPN license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Agency Requirements
  • Must possess a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Incumbents must obtain and maintain Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to develop and maintain respectful, caring, ethical relationships with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to assist/lift individuals with physical disabilities and/or limited mobility.
  • Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, and techniques.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Familiarity with safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations.
  • Aptitude to transcribe, read, and comprehend English.
Additional Information

Some LPN positions may be assigned to locations requiring 24/7 nursing staff and may involve mandatory overtime when circumstances dictate.

This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the DDS Emergency Plan. When the Governor declares a state of emergency, you will be required to report to work.

All employees are paid bi-weekly and must have direct deposit.
