Job summary

Birch Family Services is seeking a Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) in Manhattan, NY. The BIS conducts behavioral assessments and designs intervention plans for individuals with developmental disabilities in residential and day habilitation settings.

The role reports to the Residential Manager and Psychology Coordinator, with responsibilities including supervision, staff training, and ensuring documentation meets regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in field of Psychology, Social Work or BCBA certification and a master’s degree in Behavior Analysis or related clinical field.
• Up to 5 years’ experience with developmental disabilities with dual diagnosis, preferably in residential/day habilitation.
• Training in assessment techniques

Responsibilities

• Conduct behavioral and habilitative assessments using formal and informal methods.
• Identify behavioral and psychiatric needs and raise them to the team.
• Ensure informed consent and human rights approvals before interventions.
• Refer for psychological consultations and evaluations as needed.
• Maintain psychiatric records per OPWDD and Birch policy.
• Attend supervision and BIS meetings; lead clinical discussions in meetings.
• Lead team meetings and provide training to staff on goals and supports.
• Develop and monitor data collection systems to track progress.
• Coordinate treatment between residence and day habilitation; visit sites.
• Provide clinical supervision to residential staff and address program issues.
• Lead staff group curricula and ensure consistent implementation of interventions.
