Job summary

Midwest Behavioral Health Center is seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Technician Supervisor to lead and develop our BHT team. You will coach frontline staff, set expectations for excellent patient care, and maintain an active leadership presence within the treatment environment.

You will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, model trauma-informed, compassionate interactions, and participate in patient activities, rounds, and treatment planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Health, or related field.
• Minimum of two years' experience in behavioral healthcare or related setting.
• Proven leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Midwest Behavioral Health Center is seeking an experienced, energetic, and people-focused Behavioral Health Technician Supervisor (BHT Supervisor) to lead and develop our Behavioral Health Technician team.

BHTs are at the center of the patient experience. They're the people who spend the most time with our patients, help create structure and consistency throughout the day, celebrate progress, navigate difficult moments, and help maintain a safe and therapeutic environment. Their leadership matters.

The BHT Supervisor is a hands-on leader who will coach and develop frontline staff, set expectations for excellent patient care, and help build a strong, accountable team. You'll maintain an active presence in the treatment environment, work alongside the multidisciplinary treatment team, and step in when your team needs you.

What You'll Do

Lead, Coach & Build Your Team

• Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, coaching, and support to Behavioral Health Technicians and other assigned staff.
• Set clear expectations and help staff understand what exceptional patient care looks like in practice.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide meaningful feedback, establish goals, and address performance concerns when needed.
• Identify strengths, develop talent, and help prepare emerging leaders for future opportunities.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training, engagement, and retention of BHT staff.
• Build a team culture rooted in accountability, communication, collaboration, and respect.

Set the Standard on the Floor

• Maintain an active, visible leadership presence within the treatment environment.
• Work alongside BHTs and the multidisciplinary team to support safe, consistent, and therapeutic patient care.
• Model trauma-informed, professional, and compassionate interactions with patients and staff.
• Participate in patient activities, therapeutic groups, observations, rounds, and treatment plan implementation as assigned.
• Coach staff in real time and help turn challenging situations into opportunities for learning and development.

Lead Through the Tough Moments

• Provide calm, effective leadership during behavioral emergencies and other high-stress situations.
• Support staff in the use of approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
• Participate in physical interventions or therapeutic restraints when necessary and in accordance with training, organizational policy, and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor patient observations, rounds, environmental safety checks, and other established safety protocols.
• Help create an environment where both patients and employees feel supported and safe.

Keep the Team & Program Moving Forward

• Partner with program leadership to support daily operations, clinical schedules, and appropriate staffing levels.
• Monitor staff documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
• Ensure adherence to organizational policies, clinical protocols, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards.
• Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and treatment planning.
• Collaborate with clinical, nursing, medical, administrative, and operational leadership.
• Support quality improvement, patient safety, compliance, and operational initiatives.
• Monitor departmental goals and performance measures and identify opportunities to improve care, workflow, safety, and staff performance.
• Provide or coordinate staff education and training and participate in on-call leadership support as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Health, Human Services, Education, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in behavioral healthcare, psychiatric care, residential treatment, substance use treatment, or a related setting.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to coach employees, provide constructive feedback, manage conflict, and hold staff accountable while maintaining positive working relationships.
• Ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and provide direction during behavioral emergencies and other high‑stress situations.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required crisis prevention, de‑escalation, and behavioral management certification.
• Ability to participate in behavioral emergency response and approved physical safety interventions as required by the position.

Preferred

• Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Health, Human Services, Education, or a closely related field.
• One (1) or more years of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Experience supervising BHTs, psychiatric technicians, direct-care staff, or similar frontline behavioral health professionals.
• Experience working with children and adolescents with complex behavioral health needs.
• Experience in residential, inpatient, psychiatric, or other 24‑hour treatment environments.
• Experience working with co‑occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
