Job summary

Valleywise Health seeks a Behavioral Health Tech II to join its inpatient teams at Maryvale, Phoenix, or Mesa. You will provide routine physical and psychological care under Court Ordered Evaluation or Treatment, and work closely with the treatment team and families.

This role requires a High School Diploma or GED, 1–2 years of behavioral health experience, crisis prevention training, and BLS certification. You will support adults and youths, and use electronic medical records to document care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; related bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 1–2 years of behavioral health experience in inpatient settings preferred.
• Crisis Prevention and Intervention training required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide physical and psychological care to patients under Court Ordered Evaluation or Treatment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment team and families.
• Maintain therapeutic milieu and safety as part of the treatment plan.
• Document care and monitor patient status in the electronic medical record.

Job description

The Behavioral Health Tech (BHT) II performs a variety of routine activities to provide physical and psychological care for patients under Court Ordered Evaluation or Treatment due to mental illness. These services are provided at one of our three inpatient facilities (Maryvale, Phoenix, and Mesa). The BHT II is part of a multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with all members of the treatment team including the client/patient and their family. The BHT II is a vital component to the therapeutic milieu.

Hourly Pay Rate: $17.54 - $25.87

Qualifications

Education:

• Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
• Prefer a Basic Behavioral Sciences Certificate of Completion, or Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Behavioral Health

Experience:

• 1-2 years of behavioral health experience
• Prefer behavioral health experience in an inpatient facility.
• Acceptable behavioral health work experience includes providing direct care to individuals with a mental disorder, personality disorder, or substance use problem gained in a behavioral health, or correctional work environment.

Specialized Training:

• Must be able to complete Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training upon hire.

Certification/Licensure:

• Requires BLS issued by the American Heart Association or completes BLS during NEO training.
• Valleywise Behavioral Health Center - Mesa Unit 2 Adolescent: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit completed application to the Arizona Department of Public Safety within seven days of hire date. Fingerprint clearance cards must remain valid for the entire period of issuance and must be renewed prior to expiration.
• Pursuant to Arizona Administrative Code R9-10-306 CHAPTER 10 of the Dept. of Health Services, personnel must be at least 21 years of age, or at least 18 years of age and licensed or certified under A.R.S. Title 32 and providing services within the personnel member’s scope of practice.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must demonstrate the skills and knowledge to provide behavioral health services to adults, including those over the age of 65, adolescents, individuals with substance abuse, individuals who are seriously mentally ill, individuals who have co-occurring disorder, and/or individuals who may be victims or perpetrators of domestic violence.
• Requires basic computer word processing skills (e.g., formatting, editing, printing, composing email, internet searches, etc.) to be able to successfully navigate through an electronic medical record using a computer.
• Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
