Job summary

Valleywise Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to float across departments from the Staffing Office, supporting adult psychiatry patients with routine tasks to aid in physical and psychological care.

The role works with a multidisciplinary team to promote safety, recovery, and well-being, maintaining a structured milieu and engaging patients in care activities.

Qualifications

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prefer a Basic Behavioral Sciences Certificate of Completion, or Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Behavioral Health.
  • 1-2 years of behavioral health experience; inpatient facility preferred.

Job description

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT), based out of the Staffing Office, functions as a float and provides support across multiple departments within Valleywise Health. This position is responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks and activities to assist in delivering physical and psychological care to patients within the psychiatry department.

The patient population primarily consists of adults, 18 years of age and older, diagnosed with a mental health condition. The BHT works collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary treatment team, including patients and their families, to promote safety, recovery, and well-being.

As a key member of the therapeutic milieu, the BHT plays a vital role in maintaining a structured, supportive, and therapeutic environment that fosters patient engagement and positive behavioral outcomes.

Hourly Pay Rate: $25.00

Education:

Requires a High School Diploma or GED.

Prefer a Basic Behavioral Sciences Certificate of Completion, or Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Behavioral Health

Experience:

1-2 years of behavioral health experience

Prefer behavioral health experience in an inpatient facility.

Acceptable behavioral health work experience includes providing direct care to individuals with a mental disorder, personality disorder, or substance use problem gained in a behavioral health, or correctional work environment.

Specialized Training:

Must be able to complete Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training upon hire.

Certification/Licensure:

Requires BLS issued by the American Heart Association or completes BLS during NEO training.

Valleywise Behavioral Health Center - Mesa Unit 2 Adolescent: Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit completed application to the Arizona Department of Public Safety within seven days of hire date.

Fingerprint clearance cards must remain valid for the entire period of issuance and must be renewed prior to expiration.

Pursuant to Arizona Administrative Code R9-10-306 CHAPTER 10 of the Dept. of Health Services, personnel must be at least 21 years of age, or at least 18 years of age and licensed or certified under A.R.S. Title 32 and providing services within the personnel member’s scope of practice.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must demonstrate the skills and knowledge to provide behavioral health services to adults, including those over the age of 65, adolescents, individuals with substance abuse, individuals who are seriously mentally ill, individuals who have co-occurring disorder, and/or individuals who may be victims or perpetrators of domestic violence.

Requires basic computer word processing skills (e.g., formatting, editing, printing, composing email, internet searches, etc.) to be able to successfully navigate through an electronic medical record using a computer.

Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
