Job description

Based out of the Staffing Office, the BHT floats to various departments within Valleywise Health, performing routine activities to provide physical and psychological care to patients in the psychiatry department. The patient population primarily has mental health diagnoses and is 18 years or older. The BHT collaborates with all treatment team members, including patients and families, and is a vital part of the therapeutic milieu.

Hourly pay rate: $22.00

Qualifications:

Education:

Must meet one of the following combinations of Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Behavioral Health; OR
  2. Any other Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of full-time behavioral health work experience; OR
  3. Any Associate's Degree and two (2) years of full-time behavioral health work experience; OR
  4. Eighteen (18) credit hours of post-high school education in a behavioral health-related field and two (2) years of full-time behavioral health work experience; OR
  5. Four (4) years of full-time behavioral health work experience.
Experience:
  • At least one (1) year of behavioral health experience, with the ability to float to various departments within the psychiatric or medical center. Acceptable experience includes providing direct services such as counseling, monitoring, recreational activities, transporting, etc., to individuals with mental disorders, personality disorders, or substance use problems in behavioral health, medical, educational, or correctional settings.
  • For positions based out of the Behavioral Health Staffing Office, employees must be able to float to both Desert Vista-Mesa and Psych Annex-Phoenix facilities, demonstrating required competencies.
Specialized Training:
  • Must have Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training.
Certification/Licensure:
  • Requires BLS certification. A BLS card obtained through an approved American Heart Association training center is preferred and must be obtained within 3 months. Additional certifications may be required based on the department, such as a valid fingerprint clearance card for Desert Vista – Unit 2 Adolescent, issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or a completed application within seven days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must meet conditions outlined in the employment agreement.
  • Ability to provide behavioral health services to diverse populations, including adults over 65, individuals with substance abuse issues, serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, or victims/perpetrators of domestic violence.
  • Basic computer skills for navigating electronic medical records and other tasks.
  • Effective reading, writing, and speaking skills in English.
  • Must be at least 21 years old, or 18 with appropriate licensing or certification under A.R.S. Title 32, and providing services within scope of practice.
