Job summary

Burrell Behavioral Health in Independence, MO is seeking a part-time Behavioral Health Technician to support children and adolescents across inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings. You will assist clinical staff, supervise daily activities, and help implement treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

The role emphasizes patient safety, documentation, and engagement in therapeutic activities while promoting recovery-oriented care.

Qualifications

  • High School education or equivalent and two years of responsible employment history.
  • Experience in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle; Class E license if required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor assigned patients and assist with daily living tasks; de-escalate when needed; notify nursing staff of changes.
  • Plan and lead recreation, leisure, and therapy sessions to support skills and coping.
  • Maintain clean, organized living areas and promote prosocial behavior.
  • Accurately document observations, interventions, and incidents in health records.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and therapists to optimize care.
  • Support treatment plan implementation including psychosocial rehab and milieu-based interventions.
  • Educate patients and families on psychiatric concepts, warning signs, triggers, and coping strategies.
  • Assist with discharge planning, linkages to community resources, and follow-up arrangements.
  • Prioritize self-care and resilience; participate in debriefings and maintain stable work-life balance.
