Job summary

UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC is hiring a Behavioral Health Technician for the Child, Adolescent, and Eating Disorders Unit. You will provide safe, supportive, and therapeutic care under supervision of the RN, assist with admissions, and help orient patients and families to the unit.

The role requires a Nursing Assistant I certification, at least one year in a behavioral health setting, and CPI/BLS certifications within 60 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement.
• Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within 60 days from date of hire
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
• Requires one (1) year of relevant experience in a behavioral health environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients under supervision of the RN.
• Assist with admission of new patients and orient patients and families to the unit.
• Intervene in behavioral incidents and assist with de-escalation when needed.
• Conduct one-to-one and small group interactions to support treatment plans.
• Record and report patient information and changes to the supervising RN.
