Job description

The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for providing direct, non‑clinical support to clients at the Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) center. This position assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and recovery‑oriented environment, monitoring client behavior, and supporting clinical staff in crisis stabilization efforts. The Behavioral Health Technician I plays a key role in client engagement, observation, and documentation while adhering to trauma‑informed care principles.

Work Duties and Tasks

• 30% - Monitor clients in designated areas to ensure safety and de‑escalate situations as needed
• 20% - Assist with client engagement, orientation to the facility, and basic needs support (e.g., meals, comfort items)
• 15% - Document client observations, behaviors, and incidents in accordance with Medicaid and BHUC standards
• 15% - Support clinical staff during crisis interventions and safety planning
• 10% - Escort clients within the facility and during transfers when needed
• 5% - Maintain cleanliness and readiness of client areas in collaboration with environmental services
• 5% - Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development

Qualifications, Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in a human services field preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience in behavioral health, crisis services, or a related human services role preferred.
• Training in de‑escalation, crisis response, or CPI certification preferred (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
• Ability to interact effectively with individuals in crisis and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
