Job summary

The Center for Family Services in Washington, NJ is looking for an experienced Behavioral Health Technician to join its Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center. This role involves providing observation and support to adults experiencing mental health crises in a 24-hour therapeutic setting.

Program Summary

Center For Family Services is seeking an experienced and professional Behavioral Health Technician for the Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center. This 24‑hour psychiatric crisis center serves adults experiencing a mental health crisis, providing a nurturing and supportive environment where clients receive therapeutic interventions for up to 24 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists with the admission process of new consumer admissions.
  • Records inventory log of all consumer personal belongings, valuables and return ticket. Consumer valuables to be kept in the secure locker.
  • Works closely with Licensed Clinician and clinical team to facilitate care of consumer and disposition planning.
  • Applies trauma informed care approach to consumer interactions.
  • Provides ongoing observation of consumers in the care of the CRSC.
  • Exercises sound professional judgment and seeks assistance as necessary to effectively manage consumer behavior. Utilizes de‑escalation techniques as appropriate.
  • Provides support during behavioral health crises by using trauma‑informed engagement, verbal de‑escalation, environmental awareness, and approved program safety procedures to help maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu.
  • Serves as liaison with CRSC staff to ensure that all consumer needs are met.
  • Provides supervision of any food or meals for consumers in program.
  • Provides emotional support for consumers while referring them to clinical staff to deal with clinical issues.
  • Provides (using program vehicle) and/or arranges for transportation services for clients to access services as needed.
  • Completes all assigned paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely manner.
  • Completes incident reports according to policy in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Communicates with other staff as necessary to promote quality client care.
  • Participates in required staff training and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Participates in Center and Program performance improvement activities.
  • Observes and reports safety and maintenance problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position and in accordance with program policies, training, and regulatory requirements.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health field
  • At least two years of experience working with individuals with a serious mental illness or with a substance use disorder
  • Current driver's license with a good driving record of at least three years
  • Behavioral health technician certification preferred
