Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician is part of the multidisciplinary treatment team, working directly with inmates who have mental health or intellectual and developmental disabilities. The technician provides therapeutic services within mental health programs, plans and conducts therapeutic activities, and supervises client activities to promote self-adjustment and clinical stabilization.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Plan and conduct client activities appropriate to the program.
2. Lead one or more groups in therapeutic activities.
3. Evaluate clients' capabilities and recommend placement in activity programs.
4. Maintain administrative and clinical records.
5. Request supplies and equipment needed for activities.
6. Provide individual instruction to clients as required.
7. Follow Behavioral Health Policies, Procedures, and IDOC directives.

Additional related duties may be assigned as needed.

Environmental Conditions

Work occurs in a correctional medical setting, involving daily interactions with inmates, staff, and healthcare personnel. Temperature extremes may be encountered indoors and outdoors.

Minimum Requirements

• Travel: Minimal
• Licensing: None required
• Certification: Current CPR certification
• Experience: Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field
• Education: Knowledge of therapeutic activity principles, ability to plan and organize recreational activities, and maintain related equipment

Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
