Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Observe and maintain a safe milieu with patient checks and safety monitoring.
• Complete close observation monitoring (15-minute checks, line of sight, or one-on-one).
• Monitor for contraband and report changes to the nurse.
• Assist with care-related tasks delegated by the RN (vital signs, documentation, etc.).
• Conduct psychoeducational and therapeutic group activities using approved materials.
• Orient new staff and provide feedback to the treatment team for care plan revisions.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for supporting the therapeutic milieu, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, by ensuring that the schedule/program is consistently delivered, patients are supervised, safety is maintained, and patients and guests are treated with respect and dignity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Responsible for observation and maintenance of safe milieu through patient checks and safety monitoring.
• Completes close observation monitoring including 15-minute checks, line of sight, or one-on-one monitoring as ordered.
• Monitors for contraband and reports any potential change of condition to the nurse.
• Adheres to tasks delegated by the Registered Nurse related to the care of the patients including, but not limited to vital signs, specimen collection, documentation, group education, and patient monitoring.
• Demonstrates effective milieu management skills, which promote positive patient experiences.
• Accompany patients to off-unit activities (i.e., meals, outside breaks, off-unit visits, out-of-building activities and appointments).
• Responsible for reporting all medical or psychiatric changes to the Registered Nurse.
• Assists with the admission process to include belongings inventory, visitation to unit, vital signs, and other duties as delegated.
• Documents property at admission, accounts for property usage during stay, and reconciles property at discharge.
• Comply with the established policy and procedure requiring a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.
• Conducts unit safety checks each shift.
• Encourages and assists patients in performing activities of daily living.
• Facilitates or co-facilitates psychoeducational and therapeutic activity groups effectively, using established guidelines and/or prepared and approved information.
• Employs appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as required and according to policy and procedure.
• Maintains current knowledge of the program and policy and procedure guidelines.
• Assists in orienting new staff members to their position.
• Documents in the Medical Record according to established policies.
• Provides pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient response to treatment interventions that assists in the development and revision of the treatment plan.
• Complies with hospital policy, OSHA, and CDC guidelines regarding the collection of various specimens.

• Other duties as assigned.
