Job summary

Rock Springs in Georgetown, Texas, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks a Behavioral Health Technician to support compassionate psychiatric care and patient safety. You will assist with vital signs, care documentation, and group activities in a dynamic, mission-driven team.

You will work under RN supervision, promote a therapeutic milieu, participate in crisis intervention, and help with admissions and discharge planning. This role offers professional development within a supportive hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in a psychiatric health care facility.
• CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days.
• Valid driver's license and proof of insurance when using personal or hospital vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care tasks delegated by the RN, including taking vital signs and documenting care.
• Demonstrate milieu management and accompany patients to meals and appointments.
• Report changes to the RN and assist with admissions and safety checks.
• Document patient information from admission through discharge and maintain a therapeutic milieu.
• Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups and support treatment planning.

How You'll Contribute

• Provide patient care tasks delegated by the RN, including taking vital signs, collecting specimens, documenting care, facilitating group education, and monitoring patients.
• Demonstrate effective milieu management and accompany patients to meals, breaks, off‑unit visits, and appointments.
• Report medical or psychiatric changes to the RN and assist with admissions, including belongings inventory, visitation, and vital signs.
• Document property at admission and discharge, conduct safety checks, and promote a clean, therapeutic environment.
• Encourage patients with activities of daily living and facilitate or co‑facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups.
• Apply crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques and maintain knowledge of program policies and procedures.
• Provide orientation and mentorship to new staff members, serve as a preceptor, and train colleagues on group facilitation and maintaining a therapeutic milieu.
• Employ therapeutic communication, assess patient needs related to chemical dependency, and document plans of care from admission through discharge.
• Participate in treatment planning as part of the interdisciplinary team and perform other duties as assigned.
• Serves as a member of the planning team under RN direction and acts as a resource and role model for other staff.

What We're Looking For

• High school degree or GED preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred.
• Will require valid driver's license and a favorable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), along with proof of insurance when using personal or hospital owned vehicle.
• CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact. Must be at least 21 years of age.

Schedule: PRN 12 hr. shifts, (7a-7p)
