Job summary

WestCare Foundation seeks a Behavioral Health Technician to support inpatient unit operations and patient care. You will assist nursing staff with admission, care, and discharge, and provide direct patient support including 1x1 counseling and therapeutic activities.

Ideal candidates hold a related bachelor's degree or demonstrated experience in mental health or substance abuse settings, with strong empathy, confidentiality, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• CPR/First Aid certification required within 6 months of employment and renewed biennially.
• Bachelor-level degree in addiction counseling, social work, psychology, or related field preferred.
• Experience in mental health or substance abuse settings is advantageous.
• Strong communication and compassionate approach toward clients and families.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with admission, care, and discharge of clients in the inpatient unit.
• Take and record vitals accurately and report abnormalities immediately.
• Observe patients for behavioral changes and communicate concerns to the team.
• Provide 1x1 counseling and participate in therapeutic activities as directed.
• Document patient status, logs, and progress per policy and treatment plan.
• Maintain safety, confidentiality, and trauma-informed care in all interactions.
• Support housekeeping, transport, and daily living activities as needed.
• Participate in required trainings and quality improvement activities.
