Job summary

Job description

Overview

Serenity for Life is a women’s mental health & substance use disorder facility. It is a voluntary, 12‑bed, luxury facility nestled in the mountains of Georgetown, Colorado. We provide trauma‑informed care, integrated wellness, and real‑life rebuilding.

Position Summary

The PRN Behavioral Health Technician provides direct client care, supervision, and support services to individuals receiving residential mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment. The BHT assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and structured environment while supporting clients in achieving treatment goals. This position works collaboratively with nursing, clinical, medical, dietary, and leadership staff to promote client recovery and well‑being.

Licensure / Certification / Other
  1. Valid Colorado driver’s license
  2. Current basic life support certificate for healthcare providers (BLS/AED) or CPR/First Aid and AED
  3. QMAP certified

Preferred: Certified Addiction Technician (CAT) or Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) credentials

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Working knowledge of Google Workspace and EHR/EMR, or the ability to learn these programs
  2. Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  3. General knowledge of substance use and co‑occurring disorders or the ability to obtain it
  4. Ability to handle pressure and stressful situations with tact
  5. Ability to move quickly during emergency situations
  6. Empathetic and willing to listen and respect client goals and needs
  7. Skilled at embracing cultural diversity and exhibiting cultural competence
  8. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  9. Ability to maintain professional boundaries
  10. Ability to de‑escalate emotionally charged situations

Essential Job Duties
Client Specific
  1. Assist in the intake process by inventorying client belongings and collecting urine and breath samples
  2. Assist with vital signs
  3. Conduct routine client safety checks and room checks
  4. Share client observations, concerns, and/or needs with the medical/clinical team
  5. Escort clients to events outside of the agency such as outdoor adventures, appointments, and other locations
  6. Maintain awareness of client whereabouts and account for all clients
  7. Assist in crisis situations according to facility policies and de‑escalation training
  8. Assist with referral and discharge resourcing and planning
Therapeutic Support
  1. Build professional, supportive relationships with clients
  2. Encourage participation in treatment activities, groups, appointments, and recovery programming
  3. Provide emotional support and positive reinforcement
  4. Model healthy communication, coping skills, and appropriate boundaries
  5. Facilitate or co‑facilitate psychoeducational, life‑skills, recreational, or recovery‑oriented groups as assigned
Documentation
  1. Complete timely and accurate shift notes, observation logs, incident reports, and communication logs
  2. Document client behaviors, participation, concerns, and significant events
  3. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements
Medication Support (QMAP Certified)
  1. Observe and document medication self‑administration
  2. Assist nursing staff with medication‑related tasks within scope of training
  3. Monitor for medication side effects or adverse reactions and immediately report concerns to nursing staff
  4. Maintain medication security procedures as assigned
Transportation and Community Activities
  1. Transport clients to appointments, meetings, recreational activities, and community outings when authorized. May occasionally pick up or drop off clients to other locations
  2. Maintain appropriate supervision during community activities
  3. Ensure safe operation of company vehicles and compliance with “Vehicle Safety Emergency P&P”. Document start and end mileage and any maintenance issues/concerns. Inform the direct supervisor of issues or concerns
Facility Operations
  • Conduct environmental safety inspections
  • Monitor facility cleanliness and report maintenance concerns
  • Support infection control and safety practices
Team Collaboration
  1. Participate in shift reports and treatment team communications
  2. Communicate client concerns promptly to nursing and clinical staff
  3. Support facility goals, policies, and procedures
  4. Maintain respectful and professional working relationships with coworkers, clients, vendors, and visitors
General
  1. Attend required staff meetings and trainings
  2. Participate in emergency drills and evacuation procedures
  3. Perform other duties as assigned/required
