Job summary

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Baton Rouge is seeking a compassionate Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to support nursing staff and maintain a therapeutic milieu for adults and seniors with anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.

Responsibilities include monitoring patient care activities, documenting observations, and assisting with daily living tasks while adhering to safety and infection control standards. A CNA or 6 months of bedside care is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and follow verbal and written instruction.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must work well with diverse populations.
• Must have basic knowledge of Age, Disability and Cultural Sensitivity to communicate with clients.

Responsibilities

• Continuously monitors and supports unit rules compliance.
• Uses de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
• Inventory and secure patient belongings; perform safety checks.
• Follow infection control policies; attend required in-services.
• Perform patient care activities under supervision of licensed staff; record vital signs, weights, and nutrition monitoring.
• Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and mobility; support at-risk patients.
• Tailor care to age/disability/cultural needs of patients.
• Communicate observations to nursing staff; document nutritional intake and vital signs.
• Ensure continuity of care by reporting completed tasks and patient needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
