MedStar Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to join our inpatient teams at hospitals in the Baltimore area. The ideal candidate is a licensed social worker or professional counselor capable of providing therapeutic interventions, assessments, evaluations, and making independent clinical decisions.

Position Overview

The Behavioral Health Specialist will assess, evaluate, and facilitate dispositions for patients with psychiatric concerns presenting in the Emergency Department, and process admissions to inpatient psychiatric units. Main Responsibilities

• Complete documentation adhering to standards, coordinate admissions, and manage referrals and insurance authorizations.
• Collaborate with inpatient units and external agencies to coordinate patient care and admissions.
• Serve as a liaison between hospitals and outside referral sources, ensuring effective communication and confidentiality.
• Manage aggressive behaviors, recognize early warning signs, and intervene appropriately.
• Conduct clinical assessments, provide patient and family education, and gather clinical histories for care planning.
• Communicate with healthcare providers and community resources to ensure comprehensive patient care and provide crisis assessments and support in the Emergency Department.

Qualifications
