Job Summary:

Medstar Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team. We are looking for a licensed social worker or professional counselor capable of providing therapeutic interventions, assessment, evaluation, and disposition, with the ability to make independent clinical decisions.

The Behavioral Health Specialist will assess, evaluate, and provide disposition services for patients presenting with psychiatric concerns in the Emergency Department. They will process admissions to inpatient psychiatric units.

Primary Duties:

• Complete documentation in accordance with standards, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.
• Coordinate admissions within Behavioral Health Services and related programs.
• Provide and coordinate referrals to internal and external resources.
• Ensure proper documentation to support the recommended level of care and coordinate insurance authorizations.
• Work with inpatient units at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, MedStar Harbor Hospital, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital to coordinate admissions.
• Serve as liaison between inpatient units, outside agencies, referral sources, and payors to facilitate admissions and transfers.
• Participate in managing aggressive patients to ensure safety, recognizing early warning signs and intervening appropriately.
• Conduct clinical assessments and evaluations of patients with behavioral health concerns, providing education about treatment processes and resources.
• Communicate effectively with treating physicians, nurses, and community resources, providing timely documentation and assessments.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
• Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Ph.D.
• 1-2 years of experience in assessing and managing behavioral health disorders.

This position has a hiring range of $60,632.00 - $101,899.20.
