Job summary

The Emily Program in Durham, NC is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to support the milieu by facilitating therapeutic groups, providing meal support, and helping clients develop skills to manage their eating disorder.

The role requires a high school diploma, 1 year of direct patient care in mental health, and certifications such as BLS, First Aid, and CPI within 30 days where applicable. Onsite schedule includes 32 hours per week with Tue–Sat shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in a mental, behavioral, counseling, or health-related field is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of direct patient care experience in a mental/behavioral health setting is required.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates therapy groups including skills groups (CBT and DBT), self-monitoring groups, and experiential activity groups.
  • Participates in therapeutic supported meals and snacks.
  • Contributes to a recovery-oriented environment.
  • Participates in treatment team, mini team, therapy team, and/or case consultations.
  • Completes clinical documentation in compliance with policies and regulatory standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Position Overview

The Behavioral Health Specialist supports the milieu by facilitating therapeutic skills and activity groups, providing therapeutic meal support at mealtimes and snacks, assisting clients in acquiring skills to manage their eating disorder, maintaining a recovery-oriented environment, and providing general support and assistance.

Schedule
  • Full Time - Onsite, 0.8 FTE (32hrs/wk), working Tuesdays 7:40-3:30, Wednesdays 7:40 - 2:30, Thursdays 7:40am - 3:30pm, Fridays 7:40 - 2:30, Saturdays 7:40 - 2:00.
Compensation Range

Behavioral Health Specialist Starting Hourly Range: $21.00 - $25.00

Final Compensation offered will be within pay range based on qualifications/experience met for the position.
How Behavioral Health Specialists Empower Recovery
  • Facilitates therapy groups including skills groups (including CBT and DBT), self-monitoring groups, and experiential activity groups which may include art activities, music, journaling, mindfulness, relaxation, and movement.
  • Participates in therapeutic supported meals and snacks.
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of a recovery-oriented therapeutic environment.
  • Participates in treatment team, mini team, therapy team, and/or case consultation meetings.
  • Completes clinical documentation in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
General Education Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in a mental, behavioral, counseling, or behavioral sciences health-related field is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of direct patient care experience in a mental/behavioral health setting is required. HR and Executive Director have discretion when internal candidates fall slightly short of that threshold.
Other Qualifications:
  • Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites must have a valid driver’s license and be authorized to drive.
  • Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites are required to have a current Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites are required to have a current First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites in North Carolina or Georgia are required to have a current CPI certification within 30 days of hire.

  • Demonstrates excellent clinical customer service using therapeutic communication skills to build strong client relationships and improve outcomes.
  • Participates in providing clinically competent care by self/staff/team through education, role modeling, teambuilding, clinical documentation, and quality monitoring.
  • Uses leadership, team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships within and across system.
  • Engages in self-evaluation process, seeking feedback regarding own practice, from clients, peers, professional colleagues, and others.
