Job summary

CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, ND is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Behavioral Health (Psych) Unit. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care focused on mental, emotional, and physical well-being in a therapeutic setting.

Responsibilities include mental status exams, risk assessments, psychotropic medication management, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support discharge planning and patient recovery.

Qualifications

• Required RN license, ND or compact state, in good standing.
• BLS certification within orientation period and recertification as required.
• Strong communication and teamwork with patients, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for adults with mental health disorders, including mental status exams and risk assessments.
• Administer psychotropic meds, monitor side effects, and provide psychoeducation to patients and families.
• Assess emotional, behavioral, and cognitive status; de-escalate crises to ensure safety.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and case managers for holistic care and discharge planning.
• Engage patients with therapeutic communication, motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention.
• Document all assessments, interventions, and responses in compliance with hospital policies.
