Job summary

The University of Missouri-Columbia's Center for Child Well-Being, within the Department of Psychiatry, seeks a Lead for the Behavioral Resource and Referral Specialist Team in Psychiatry Access Programs. The role requires strong leadership, relationship-building with patients, families, providers, and community partners, and the ability to guide program operations.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work and relevant licensure (or eligible to be licensed within 12 months) within the State of Missouri.
  • Preferred: Education—LCSW or LPC.
  • Experience in child/adolescent and/or perinatal behavioral health, especially in primary care integration settings is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of professional staff (4–6 full-time) handling MHAP/MO-CPAP calls, intake/triage, referrals, and follow-up with patients and families.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture grounded in accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate program priorities and changes clearly to team members and leadership.
  • Participate in program and Center meetings; provide coaching, performance feedback and development opportunities.
  • Support workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, and team development with Center leadership and University partners.
  • Delegate responsibilities with clear expectations and accountabilities within the team.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external partners to support coordinated services.
  • Oversee day-to-day Resource & Referral team operations ensuring timely responses to calls, referrals, and follow-ups.
  • Monitor workload and workflow, adjust to maintain service capacity and responsiveness.
  • Identify operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Ensure HIPAA-compliant documentation and adherence to contractual requirements.

Education

Master's degree in psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work
Licensed in Missouri or eligible within 12 months
LCSW or LPC preferred
