Job Summary

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH RECOVERY SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Location: Fort Pierce, FL

New Horizons of the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee is a comprehensive mental health and substance use recovery agency serving 14,000 children and adults annually across four counties.

We seek dedicated and compassionate recovery support technicians who are eager to help individuals—both adults and children—manage behavioral health challenges. This role offers an excellent opportunity for those looking to gain experience in the mental health field regardless of prior education.

Compensation & Status

Hourly non‑exempt; eligible for overtime with approval. Current rate based on experience.

Work Environment

Work involves direct patient care, crisis intervention, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams on psychiatric units in a hospital or community setting.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist in daily treatment plans for new and existing clients, observing and referring as appropriate.
• Follow direction from charge nurse and screening procedures.
• Recognize signs of aggressive behavior and respond promptly to crisis situations.
• Use non‑violent crisis intervention techniques to redirect clients to safe behavior.
• Complete shift duties efficiently, meeting all time requirements.
• Place clients in seclusion or restraints only as a last resort and in accordance with protocol.
• Guide and participate in the client therapeutic milieu.
• Liaise effectively with clients’ families and significant others.
• Familiarize with clients’ treatment plans and encourage implementation.
• Maintain a dignified and respectful atmosphere in all interactions.
• Remain alert and awake at all times.
• Prepare written documentation and record‑keeping for assigned clients.
• Ensure all medical record entries are correct, neat, and adhere to protocol.
• Complete observation check‑lists on time and accurately.
• Assist clients as needed and obtain general information from clients and families.
• Conduct client orientation to the facility promptly.
• Safeguard and record valuables per protocol.
• Check clients’ belongings according to procedure.
• Communicate client rights and responsibilities upon admission.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as instructed.

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s student in Social Services seeking experience in behavioral health.
• Certified Nursing Assistant looking to gain experience in the behavioral health field.

Physical Requirements

• Apply therapeutic aggression management techniques without limitations.
• Extended standing or walking as required.
• Lift or carry objects weighing 20–50 pounds; with devices, lift 51–100 pounds.
• Use visual acuity for reading, data analysis, and computer use; communicate effectively in written and oral form.
