Position Overview:

A leading national Independent Review Organization (IRO) is seeking two (2) Board-Certified Behavioral Health Medical Directors to join their growing team. This is a fully remote, full-time, salaried position focused on Utilization Review (UR). Ideal candidates are experienced psychiatrists ready to transition into a long-term, non-clinical role that demands focus, structure, and strong computer proficiency.

Key Qualifications:

• MD or DO, Board Certified in General Psychiatry AND either Child & Adolescent Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine (Required)
• 5+ years of clinical experience (residency included)
• Recent direct patient care experience (within the last 6 months)
• Inpatient psychiatric experience is a major plus
• Clean medical license and background (any U.S. state license acceptable)
• Above-average computer skills – must be comfortable working with multiple systems, portals, and monitors
• Must reside and work within the U.S. (no international candidates)
• Must be willing to obtain additional state licenses (costs covered)
• Committed to a career in Utilization Review – not a temporary or locums role
• Not semi-retired or seeking supplemental income – this is a busy, full-time role
• Not currently owning or involved in a private practice
• Understands and has experience with Utilization Review in clinical settings
• Able to work a structured, non-flexible schedule with minimal time off during the 3-month training period

Job Responsibilities:

• Review medical records and determine service authorization based on clinical guidelines (MCG/InterQual), CMS policies, and health plan criteria
• Conduct peer-to-peer calls with providers to gather additional clinical information
• Collaborate with internal teams and adhere to URAC standards and regulatory compliance
• Work independently post-training, with support from a collaborative team
