Psych Care Plus coordinates admission and outpatient scheduling for the Behavioral Health Service Line at Western Psychiatric Hospital. The role involves shifts including days, evenings, nights, with weekend and holiday coverage, and initial in-office work before hybrid work later.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of DSM-V and ability to develop provisional diagnoses.

• Ability to triage and assess medical necessity for outpatient or inpatient placement.

Responsibilities

• Meet documentation standards and complete required paperwork for psychiatric evaluation and commitment.
• Demonstrate ability to utilize DSM-V and develop provisional diagnoses.
• Review inpatient commitment for accuracy, competencies and timelines.
• Know insurance processes and obtain authorizations as needed.
• Participate in interdisciplinary activities and staff meetings.
• Learn and use up-to-date technology for patient care assessment and disposition planning.
• Handle high volume of calls and triage to meet patient needs quickly.
• Follow outpatient scheduling or referral documentation guidelines.
• Respond to appointment or inpatient admission requests via email, phone, or voicemail.
• Review and summarize patient information for admissions to a behavioral health unit and triage placement.
• Present cases to physicians and other staff.
• Demonstrate triage and assessment skills for medical necessity or outpatient clinic placement.
• Provide accurate, timely information to coworkers, physicians, and outside agencies.
• Access social resources and facilitate referrals for patients and families.

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is hiring a full-time Behavioral Health Navigator I to support the PsychCare+ team!

Psych Care Plus is the admission and outpatient scheduling service for UPMC Behavioral Health Service Line for Western Psychiatric Hospital.

The incumbent will work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and nights. Must work 1 weekend shift every other weekend as well as 2 major and 2 minor holidays per year. This is a hybrid position, with the first couple of months exclusively in-office.

Responsibilities

• Meet standards for documentation and completes all required paperwork, including psychiatric evaluation, commitment paperwork.
• Demonstrate ability to utilize DSMV and to develop provisional diagnosis.
• Demonstrate knowledge of mental health laws and reviews inpatient commitment for accuracy, competencies and proper time frames.
• Knowledge of insurance programs, processes and able to obtain authorizations as needed.
