Job summary

MyCHN, a nonprofit FQHC serving Greater Houston, seeks a Behavioral Health Medical Assistant to support behavioral health and psychiatry services. You will ensure smooth clinic operations, deliver high-quality patient care, and assist with exams, injections, and medication management.

Ideal candidates have a Medical Assistant program credential (Certified or Registered preferred) and at least one year of healthcare experience, with strong communication and confidentiality skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant program (Certified or Registered preferred).
• At least one year of healthcare or behavioral health experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including intake, vitals, screenings, testing, and injections.
• Assist providers with exams, procedures, treatment plans, medication refills, and prior authorizations.
• Manage internal communications and respond to patient and team inquiries promptly.
• Support laboratory processes, including specimen collection and communicating results to patients.
• Maintain provider schedules and support clinic productivity goals.
• Participate in daily huddles and collaborate with care teams to prepare for patient visits.
• Provide translation assistance when needed for verbal and written communications.
• Maintain logs, records, and reports per department standards.
• Ensure medical supplies are stocked and available for clinic operations.
• Perform emergency procedures per approved protocols.
• Adhere to organizational policies, clinical guidelines, and confidentiality standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned within scope.

What You’ll Do & Bring

As a Behavioral Health Medical Assistant, you will support providers and care teams by delivering patient-centered care and maintaining efficient clinical workflows.

What You Bring:

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of a Medical Assistant program from a state-approved school (Certified or Registered preferred)
• At least one year of experience in healthcare or behavioral health
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary care teams
• Proficiency with technology and electronic medical records systems

Preferred:

• Bilingual in Vietnamese or Spanish
