Job summary

Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities seeks a Behavioral Health Counselor for the Gracewood Campus to support mental health promotion and prevention initiatives.

Under general supervision, you will counsel individuals and groups on prevention and behavior modification, addressing issues such as addictions, family dynamics, parenting, and aging-related mental health concerns. A state-wide background check is required for employment opportunity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling or related field from an accredited college or university.
• Two years of job-related experience; or one year of experience at the lower level Behavioral Health Counselor 1 (HCP100) or position equivalent.
• Some positions may require certification or licensure.

Job Description:

Under general supervision, counsel with emphasis on prevention and/or behavior modification. Works with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. May help individuals deal with addictions and substance abuse, family, parenting, and marital problems, suicide, stress management, problems with self-esteem, and issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health.
