Job summary

PsychPlus is seeking a Behavioral Health Business Development Representative to expand access to mental health services by building relationships with providers, clinics, hospitals, and community partners in the greater Chicago area. Qualifications

  • 2+ years of business development, field sales, provider relations, or referral outreach experience in behavioral health, mental health, or healthcare.
  • Experience building relationships with healthcare providers, clinics, hospitals, or behavioral health referral sources.
  • Direct experience in mental health, behavioral healthcare, outpatient therapy, psychiatry, telehealth, or related healthcare environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to conduct in-person outreach, develop professional relationships, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
  • Willingness to travel frequently throughout the assigned territory.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, communications, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute field-based business development strategies to expand behavioral health referral relationships.
  • Visit mental health practices, medical clinics, hospitals, primary care offices, and community organizations within the assigned territory.
  • Build and maintain relationships with psychiatrists, therapists, physicians, social workers, healthcare administrators, and other referral partners.
  • Identify and develop new referral opportunities across mental health and behavioral healthcare networks.
  • Schedule and conduct in-person meetings, presentations, and outreach visits with prospective referral partners.
  • Communicate behavioral health services, care offerings, and referral processes to healthcare professionals.
  • Develop a consistent pipeline of qualified referral relationships and business development opportunities.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with existing referral partners to support engagement and continuity.
  • Understand the needs of healthcare providers and referral sources and communicate opportunities for collaboration.
  • Follow up with prospective partners and maintain accurate records of outreach activity and relationship development.
  • Identify opportunities to expand partnerships with clinics, hospitals, community organizations, and behavioral health providers.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to support the onboarding and development of new referral partners.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Behavioral Health Business Development Representative to expand access to mental health services by building and strengthening relationships with healthcare providers, behavioral health professionals, clinics, hospitals, and community referral partners.

This is a field-based opportunity for a relationship-driven sales and business development professional with experience in mental health, behavioral healthcare, or healthcare provider outreach. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new referral opportunities, increasing awareness of behavioral health services, and building long-term partnerships that support patient access and organizational growth.

The ideal candidate has a demonstrated understanding of the behavioral healthcare ecosystem and is comfortable engaging directly with psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, medical practices, and other referral sources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute field-based business development strategies to expand behavioral health referral relationships.
  • Visit mental health practices, medical clinics, hospitals, primary care offices, and community organizations within the assigned territory.

Relationship Management & Referral Growth
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with existing referral partners to support engagement and continuity.
  • Understand the needs of healthcare providers and referral sources and communicate opportunities for collaboration.
  • Follow up with prospective partners and maintain accurate records of outreach activity and relationship development.
  • Identify opportunities to expand partnerships with clinics, hospitals, community organizations, and behavioral health providers.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to support the onboarding and development of new referral partners.
Territory Management & Field Activity
  • Manage an assigned geographic territory across the greater Chicago area.
  • Plan and prioritize in-person outreach activities based on business development opportunities.
  • Conduct regular field visits, meetings, presentations, and community engagement activities.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, including contacts, outreach activity, follow-ups, and referral opportunities.
  • Provide regular updates on pipeline development, meetings, outreach activity, and business development results.
  • Monitor market trends, provider needs, and opportunities for expanding behavioral health partnerships.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with clinical, operations, scheduling, and other internal teams to support effective referral partner onboarding.
  • Communicate feedback from referral sources to appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Support initiatives designed to improve provider engagement, referral coordination, and access to behavioral health services.
  • Represent the organization professionally and maintain high standards of communication and relationship management.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of business development, field sales, provider relations, or referral outreach experience in behavioral health, mental health, or healthcare.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with healthcare providers, clinics, hospitals, or behavioral health referral sources.
  • Direct experience in mental health, behavioral healthcare, outpatient therapy, psychiatry, telehealth, or a related healthcare environment strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to conduct in-person outreach, develop professional relationships, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage a territory independently and organize frequent field visits and meetings.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage contacts, follow-ups, and business development activity.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and results-oriented.
  • Willingness to travel frequently throughout the assigned territory.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Passion for improving access to mental health and behavioral healthcare services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in behavioral health business development, mental health referral development, or healthcare provider relations.
  • Existing professional relationships with mental health providers, medical practices, hospitals, or community referral organizations in the Chicago metropolitan area.
  • Experience promoting outpatient therapy, psychiatry, telehealth, or integrated behavioral health services.
  • Experience working with healthcare organizations, referral networks, or insurance-based outpatient care.
  • Familiarity with behavioral health referral processes and healthcare provider engagement.
  • Demonstrated success developing new referral partnerships or growing a business development territory.

Base Salary: $80,000–$120,000 annually + Commission

Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, and the final compensation structure.
