Job summary

Asteroid Health is seeking an Admissions Counselor to join our Newton, MA team. The role involves intake assessments, determining care levels, and connecting with referrals to ensure timely access to services.

You will collaborate closely with the clinical team to deliver compassionate behavioral health support. The ideal candidate has a background in Social Work or Psychology, experience in admissions or patient access, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience in admissions, patient access, or front-line behavioral health services.
• Foundational knowledge of behavioral health concepts and crisis sensitivity.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with professional interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with basic office software and EHR systems.

Job description

Asteroid Health is a thriving start-up offering mental health services in the Newton, MA area.

We offer Psychiatric Day Treatment (Partial-Care Services) and General Outpatient services (e.g.

weekly individual counseling). We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Admissions

Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in behavioral

health and be skilled in various therapeutic modalities. This role involves but is not limited to,

providing high-quality mental health services, including psychotherapy, intake, crisis

intervention, and grief services to individuals and families. The Admissions Counselor will work

collaboratively with the rest of the program team to meet client needs, promoting overall wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess foundational knowledge and experience in Social Work and/or Psychology, with exposure to behavioral health settings.
• Candidates should possess skills in Case Management, including intake coordination, documentation, and follow-up with clients and care teams.
• Candidates should possess a strong understanding of Mental Health concepts, including common diagnoses, treatment modalities, and crisis sensitivity.
• Candidates should possess excellent Communication skills, including active listening, clear verbal and written communication, and professional interpersonal interaction.
• Relevant education such as a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred.
• Experience in admissions, patient access, or front-line behavioral health services is beneficial.
• Ability to work reliably on-site in Newton, MA, manage multiple tasks, and maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
• Proficiency with basic office software and electronic health record or intake systems is an advantage.
