Job summary

Henry Ford Behavioral Health Hospital in West Bloomfield, MI seeks a Contingent Activity Therapist to join our interdisciplinary team and support treatment plans for diverse age groups.

You will develop and facilitate activity programs to improve emotional wellness, social functioning, and coping skills while collaborating with physicians, nurses, and therapists to deliver holistic, recovery-focused care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or related field required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Three or more years of experience in recreation therapy or activity therapy within a healthcare setting required.
• Experience with behavioral health populations preferred.
• CPR certification and de-escalation training may be required.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and interviews to guide treatment plans.
• Plan, organize, and direct activities within the treatment program to meet goals.
• Lead therapeutic leisure activities and education to improve well-being.
• Facilitate sessions to enhance mental and physical health.
• Instruct patients in activities such as sports, art, or relaxation techniques.
• Develop and implement treatment plans aligned with patient goals.
• Engage patients in activities and community outings to build social skills.
