Job summary

Medix is seeking a Behavioral Support Specialist to provide day-to-day support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a structured day services program. You will help participants engage in activities, follow individualized goals, and deliver behavioral support as needed throughout the day.

Responsibilities include guiding participants through daily routines, reviewing goals, documenting progress, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• CPR/First Aid certification required or must be obtained prior to staffing ratio.
• CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required or must be obtained prior to staffing ratio.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred; high school diploma or GED required.

Job description

We are seeking a Behavioral Support Specialist to provide day-to-day support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a structured day services program. This role focuses primarily on helping participants engage in daily activities, follow individualized goals, and receive behavioral support as needed throughout the day.

Responsibilities/ Job Duties:

• Provide direct support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a structured day services program, typically supporting two participants at a time.
• Help participants transition into the program, review their daily activities and goals, and provide support throughout the day.
• Follow individualized behavior plans and use appropriate behavioral strategies to support participants during daily activities and programming.
• Support participants in choosing from a variety of scheduled activities designed to promote engagement, independence, and participation.
• Provide behavioral support as a supplemental component of the day services program rather than intensive behavioral intervention.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment.
• Review participant information and goals prior to the start of programming to ensure appropriate support throughout the day.
• Document participant progress, behavioral data, and narrative notes in the program's documentation systems.
• Complete required documentation within 24 hours of the end of the shift, with designated time during the day to complete notes.
• Rotate consistently with team members to provide support across the participant population.
• Support participants arriving through Regional Center transportation services or family drop-off..
• Support a program serving approximately 20–25 participants per day, with plans to grow to approximately 40 total participants.

Minimum Education and Experience Qualification Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Previous experience supporting individuals with behavioral needs preferred.
• CPR/First Aid Certification required, or must be obtained prior to working within the program's required staffing ratio.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required, or must be obtained prior to working within the program's required staffing ratio.

Schedule/ Shift: Monday - Friday 8am - 330pm or 830am - 4pm
