Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas seeks a Behavioral Support Professional (BSP) to provide direct clinical services in I/DD residential programs. You will participate with the DSP team to implement plans, support individuals, and document progress per BSP guidelines.

Qualifications include an Associates degree preferred, 5 years in an I/DD setting, and experience with SIS Level 4 for Autism or behavioral issues.

Job Details: Job Location: HR IDD - Big Bear - Chesapeake, VA 23323, Position Type: Part Time - 0-19, No Benefits, Education Level: Certification Non-Degree Obtained, Salary Range: $18.00 - $20.00 Hourly, Travel Percentage: Negotiable, Job Shift: Evening, Job Category: Behavioral and Mental Health Services.

The Behavioral Support Professional (BSP) provides direct clinical services - assessment, interventions, treatment planning and discharge planning through consistent implementation of all plans. The BSP works directly with the DSP to provide supports in the I/DD residential programs.

Essential Functions:

• Provides behavioral and direct support services in accordance with accepted standards and best practices in I/DD services, as outlined by CARF, Federal and State Regulations, VOACC’s Mission, policies and procedures.
• Plans and conducts supports to people according to their Person-Centered Plan.
• Documents according to BSP guidelines and assures DSP staff also do so while working together.
• Performs documentation for each shift worked, may be asked to contribute to support plans and attend meetings to help develop goals/objectives, may collect billing and census information.
• Attends team meetings when indicated and reports on people and their progress toward goals; updates support plans as needed or as changes in condition occur.
• Delivers supports in an ethical manner that promotes respect for the person and enhances their dignity and satisfaction.
• Demonstrates ability to assess and interpret a person’s response to supports in an age/disability/culturally sensitive specific manner and ensures documentation of this.
• Assesses and interprets age/disability/cultural needs; identifies safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs; and communicates in an age/disability/culturally sensitive manner to people and their families/guardians.
• Participates on the house team meetings and trainings.
• Keeps all certifications and trainings current.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications Requirements

Educational / Experience Requirements:

• Associates Degree preferred.
• 5 years’ experience in an I/DD setting.
• 2 or more years’ experience working with people with a SIS scale of Level 4 for Autism or Behavioral Issues.

Qualifications / Skills:

• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related disability-related needs of people supported.
• Knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the I/DD population served.
• Ability to assess and interpret data about the person’s status to identify each person’s needs and provide appropriate care, including age related care/disability/cultural sensitivity related care to the I/DD population.
• Basic knowledge of chronic mental illness.
• Excellent communication and group/process skills as related to each person’s needs.
• Demonstrate assessment, intervention, treatment and planning skills.
• Versatile, flexible, and able to perform in stressful situations.
• Good time and organizational skills.
• Capable of coordinating multi-faceted workload.
• Ability to work with an array of mental/physical disabled persons.
• Successfully complete CPR certification and TOVA training.
