Job summary

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in Texas is seeking a qualified behavioral specialist to lead interventions for students with significant disabilities, including autism. You will design, develop and implement behavioral intervention plans and collaborate with teachers to support IEP goals and positive classroom behaviors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Texas teacher certification in elementary or secondary education and special education; administrator certification preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as a certified special education teacher.
  • Experience designing and implementing behavioral interventions based on functions of behavior.
  • Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorders.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners.
  • Certified in nonviolent crisis intervention or willing to become a trainer.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to obtain and maintain AED and CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement behavioral intervention plans and classroom management strategies for students with significant disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Train staff in nonviolent crisis intervention procedures and monitor implementation.
  • Compile and maintain reports, records and documents as required.
  • Collaborate with parents and stakeholders to meet IEP goals.
  • Observe students and teach socially acceptable behaviors based on individual needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality per laws and policies.
  • Coordinate discipline management and campus emergency operations plans.
  • Assist in staffing to meet instructional and behavioral needs.
  • Stay informed on best practices for autism interventions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Administrator/Principal.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Job description

  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Visionary leadership to work with faculties, families and communities of the 21st century;
  • Ability to work flexible hours and to maintain a flexible schedule;
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate.
Terms of Employment

Probationary/Term Contract: 193 days

Salary

$66,627/IA-3

Salary range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year.

Essential Functions
  • Train and work with teachers and campus personnel to design, develop and implement behavioral intervention plans and classroom management strategies for students with significant disabilities and behavioral challenges.
  • Train staff in approved nonviolent crisis intervention procedures and monitor implementation of these procedures.
  • Compile and maintain all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents as required.
  • Work collaboratively with parents and other stakeholders to ensure success in meeting students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Observe students in school, home and community environments and consult with school staff and parents to teach socially acceptable behaviors to students based on individual needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and the local board.
  • Assist with the coordination of the discipline management program.
  • Assist with the coordination of the campus emergency operations plan, including coordination of required crisis drills.
  • Assist in assignment of classroom personnel to ensure adequate staffing to meet the instructional and behavioral programming needs of the students.
  • Remain abreast of research and best practices for behavioral intervention for students with autism spectrum disorders.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director/Principal.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.

Physical Demands: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting.

Lifting: Regular lifting and carrying; may lift and move stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate.

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
