Job summary

Primary Purpose

Provide students with behavior activities and support that lead to positive experiences in the learning environment to help them fulfil their potential for academic, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop behavioral and social competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Eligible for a valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate for teaching assignment (Standard, Provisional or One-Year certificates only; ACP candidates on a probationary certificate do not qualify); must be grade level certified.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, PBIS experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills and strategies.
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED), CPI and CPR certificate.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of core academic subjects.
  • Knowledge of Social Skill instruction and behavior modification programs.
  • Ability to develop and implement positive behavior supports for students in their classrooms.
  • Ability to facilitate small group and individual, social and behavior lessons.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of effective DMC procedures.
  • Develop Student Support plans and contracts for students.
  • Ensure that components of PBIS and other management systems are in place for campus.
Terms Of Employment

Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days

$64,207 (IA-3)

Essential Functions
Attendance
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement behavior lesson plans that support the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflects the understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify behavior curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other members of staff to determine behavior goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
Student Growth and Development
  • Develop and monitor implementation of Student Support Plans.
  • Facilitate and develop avenues of data collection to monitor student behavior progress.
  • Assume responsibility for approved extracurricular activities or outside activities for which you are the sponsor.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Work with teachers to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Model, support and communicate effective classroom management strategies to allow the teacher to manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials to support behavior goals for the classroom.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Other duties assigned by the campus administration.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED), CPI and CPR certificate.
  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent walking; frequent redirection of students.
  • Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
  • Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise.
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; de‑escalate those in crisis during tense situations.
