Job summary

REETHS-PUFFER SCHOOLS is seeking a Behavior Support Specialist to support students with social, emotional, and academic challenges. The role emphasizes diagnostic and consultative services to students, families, and school staff, guided by MTSS frameworks and data-informed planning.

The candidate should have advanced credentials in school social work or school counseling, with demonstrated expertise in behavior intervention planning, data use, and collaboration across teams to improve outcomes

Qualifications

• Master’s level licensed school social worker, or certified school counselor preferred.
• Experience with students at risk with behavioral challenges.
• Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focus on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.
• Expert knowledge of techniques for functional behavior assessments, function-based interventions, and PBSPs.
• Exceptional use of assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide supportive, diagnostic and consultative service to students, teachers, administrators and families of students with social, emotional and academic difficulties.
• Complete and present a written evaluation report within required timelines.
• Participate in development and implementation of preventative mental health methods based on student needs.
• Complete Medicaid Billing as required by the position.
• Facilitate development of positive student outcomes using the Graduate Profile as a ‘north star’.
• Provide staff development and parent/guardian training.
• Experience with preschool through 4th grade learners.
• Consult with other personnel to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Maintain records, reports and procedures including lesson plans and behavioral data.

Behavior Support Specialist

Qualifications

• - Master’s level licensed school social worker, or certified school counselor preferred.
• - Experience with students at risk with behavioral challenges.
• - Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.
• - Expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function-based interventions, and Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP).
• - Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessment and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe plans for individual students.
• - Expert knowledge in research-based instructional strategies and ability to implement them effectively.
• - Exceptional knowledge in the use of technology to support instruction.
• - Demonstrate ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction.
• - Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality.
• - Demonstrates exceptional skill in the roles of a teacher leader: collaborator, action researcher, reflective practitioner, and learner advocate.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• - Provide supportive, diagnostic and consultative service to students, teachers, administrators and parents/guardians/families of students with social, emotional and academic difficulties.
• - Complete and present a written evaluation report to parents/guardians and the local educational agency within required timelines.
• - Participate in the development and implementation of preventative mental health methods/techniques/programs based upon student needs and present level of performance.
• - Complete Medicaid Billing as required by the position.
• - Facilitate, in conjunction with the LEA staff, the development of positive student outcomes using the Graduate Profile as a ‘north star’.
• - Provide staff development and parent/guardian training.
• - Have experience working with preschool through 4th grade learners.
• - Consult with other personnel including teachers, principals, other ancillary staff and parent/guardian to evaluate program effectiveness.
• - Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports and procedures including, but not limited to, lesson plans, behavioral data and student progress on goals/objectives developed within the MTSS processes for support.
• - Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of positive behavior supports
• - Design and implement multi-faceted behavior interventions
• - Understand the behavioral characteristics typically associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Impairments, Behavior Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury, Intellectual Disabilities, etc.
• - Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals
• - Understand and work with the various support systems available in the community
• - Work within District MTSS guidelines and regulations including the seclusion and restraint policy
• - Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively handle emotionally-charged situations
• - Ability to train others to apply effective behavior management techniques
• - Others as assigned

Compensation

The salary of this grant-funded position will be commensurate with level of education and experience.
