Job summary

Behavioral Support Specialist
Position Purpose

To collaborate with school professionals, families and students to promote and maintain a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment for all students and support identified one-on-one, in the classroom, for behavior and academic reason.

Essential Job Functions
  • Work with teachers and administration in carrying out the philosophy of discipline within the school.
  • Teaching social skills lessons.
  • Member of school discipline team.
  • Help promote school wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS)initiative.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, families, and students.
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with school professionals, students and families.
Equipment

Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and fax machines, calculator, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Pay Rates

$35.18 per hour.

Work Schedule

8 hours per day.
183 days per year.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles.
  • Knowledge of positive behavior strategies and reinforcement.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations.

  • Ability to work with others as a team.
  • Ability to be organized and maintain records,manage time and resources effectively and efficiently.

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Trainingpreferred. If not trained, must be willing to be trained.
Education

Experience
  • Priority will be given to those with:
    • Previous experience with elementary age children in a school/formal setting.
    • PBIS implementation.
