Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Highly Qualified status (A.A. Degree, 48 credit hours, or Paraprofessional Assessment Test).
• Two years of experience with children with emotional disturbance/behavioral issues or equivalent education/experience.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly with aggressive students.
• Capacity to lift 30–50 pounds and participate in physical restraint when needed.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce skills.
• Help students generalize social and problem-solving skills in general education.
• Participate as part of a crisis response team, including verbal de-escalation and physical restraint when necessary.
• Maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention certification.
• Assist teachers in planning and reinforcing instructional strategies and maintaining classroom order.
• Support with supervision and management during instructional and non-instructional activities.
